Chick Henderson

Chick Henderson (real name: Henderson Rowntree) got his nickname when a fan brought him a hot chicken supper.

He became an international star with Begin The Beguine, recorded in 1939. But the disc didn't mention Chick's name, giving the credit to Joe Loss And His Band.

The singer received £4 for the recording session, while the bandleader picked up a gold disc!

Chick Henderson died in mysterious circumstances in 1944, aged only 31.
