| Tim Healy NOW AND THEN ![]() DVD: MWMDVD79 |
Following in the footsteps of his grandparents who performed far and wide as a double act, Tim Healy's first childhood rôle was alongside his father in the local amateur dramatic society. Tim knew that his future was as a performer and he has entertained in a stunning variety of guises. Tim has worked as a welder, a court jester, a stand-up comic, a film and TV actor, an impressionist and a singer. He also spent three years in the Territorial Army with Gateshead's 4 Para where he received his coveted parachute wings. He has excelled in every area, with the
possible exception of welding.
Tim tells his own story from his childhood through his early days as a comedian around the pubs and clubs of the North East. He speaks about his involvement in the formation of Newcastle's Live Theatre Company, his big break being cast as brickie Dennis in Auf Wiedersehen Pet, his many subsequent high-profile TV roles and his recent triumphs in the West End productions of Billy Elliott and In Celebration. Tim tells his fantastic life story both on-stage and off, with a combination of hilarious jokes, soulful songs, rib-tickling anecdotes and fascinating contributions from Denise Welch, Kevin Whately, Orlando Bloom and Lynda Baron. |

| Bobby Knoxall MACKEM LAUGH ![]() DVD: MWMDVD74 |
The wit and wisdom of Bobby Knoxall MBE Introduced by Tim Healy I’ve been a fan of Bobby Knoxall ever since I was a young lad. I was a welder but all I wanted to be was a comedian. I first saw Bobby in 1974 at the Ouston Social Club in Chester le Street, County Durham and I laughed till my belly ached. Bobby oozes confidence, from the moment he walks on stage. He makes you feel as if you were in his front room. I know that Bobby has always needed to be a comedian. That’s his passion in life. This comes out in the delivery of his lines and in his 100% belief in his material. That’s what makes him so special. Every gag he tells sounds like his favourite, no question about it, and he delivers them brilliantly. He's travelled all over the world making people laugh and you have to care about people to want to do that. Bobby is a one-off, a comedian’s comedian. He’ll always be a legend in the North East. He’s recently fought through a life threatening operation, has bounced back and is performing his own unique brand of humour again. I take my hat off to you pal, wish you love and luck, and I know people old and young who buy this DVD will have a great laugh. Tim Healy |

The latest hilarious video from the Godfather of North East comedy Way back on the 22nd October 1957 at the Dominion Theatre in London, Bobby Pattinson won 1st prize of £1000 in the Butlins/Sunday People National Talent Contest. In 1957, this was a fortune as the average weekly wage was only £7. With the prize came the offer of a theatre contract and management by a London agent. Working his way up the bill, he eventually became a headliner in theatres and cabaret clubs throughout Britain and the English speaking world, including Australia, America and South Africa. He appeared at the London Palladium in 1962 and over the years performed five Sunday Night at the London Palladium TV Shows. He started his acting career in 1974 in Granada’s The Stars Look Down and appeared in countless TV plays from then on for both Granada and BBC TV. In 1978, he returned home to Gateshead to open his own music hall The Talk of the Tyne, which was a huge success and didn't have an empty seat for six years. This programme was recorded at the Gala Theatre in Durham. |

THE HULL STORY![]() DVD: MWMDVD72 Full track list |
When singer/songwriter Alan Hull died suddenly in November 1995, the reverberations travelled much further than his native Tyneside. As a founding member of the North East group Lindisfarne, his unforgettable songs had been heard around the world. Anyone who listened gained an insight into his thoughts on love, loss, heroes, villains, politics or just having fun, and all were married to melodies that could be delicate and beautiful or grand and anthemic.
On the 19th November 2005, ten years after his death, over 40 of Alan Hull’s musical and literary friends and colleagues gathered at Newcastle City Hall to perform his words and music as their own tribute before a hugely appreciative home-town audience. The money raised by the concert was donated to the North East Young Musicians Fund and all thirty pieces performed by the all-star ensemble that night are featured on this DVD. Featuring Phil Armstrong, Michael Bailey, Alan Clark, Simon Cowe, Andrew Craggs, Marty Craggs, Steve Cunninghan, Steve Daggett, Brian Duffy, Tommy Duffy, Mike Elliott, Frankie Gibbon, Charlie Harcourt, Graham Hardy, Brendan Healy, Tim Healy, John Hedley, Robin Howe, Brian Hume, Irene Hume, Ray Jackson, Jack Laidlaw, Jed Laidlaw, Ray Laidlaw, Ian McCallum, Finn McCardle, John Miles Jnr, Billy Mitchell, Scott Mitchell, Terry Morgan, Jimmy Nail, Paul Nichols, Tom Pickard, Greg Pullen, Rachael Rhodes, Chris Ringer, Stephen Robson, Bob Smeaton, Paul Smith, Julian Sutton, Kathryn Tickell and Peter Tickell. |

| TALL SHIPS RIVERS & SEA ![]() VHS: MWMV68 DVD: MWMDVD68 |
Tall Ships, Rivers And Seas A celebration of the maritime heritage of the North East of England. 1986. 1993. 2005. Each of these years is marked by a visit to the River Tyne of the Tall Ships. And to celebrate the event, the Northumbria Anthology has put together this video, directed by Ken McKenzie. It's a collection of thoughts and reminiscences of five North East writers, who specialise in the history of our region, our shipbuilders and our seafarers: Max Adams, Tony Barrow, Dick Keys, Adrian Osler and Ken Smith. Find out why the Wear and the Tyne became such important shipbuilding centres, which Geordie admiral was the real hero of Trafalgar, how bad conditions were in the Royal Navy in the 18th Century and what it was like to live in fear of the press gang. From the early days of wooden sailing vessels to triumphs of steam technology like the Mauretania, this video gives a fascinating glimpse of ships and the people who worked with them. |

| Brendan Healy TALL STORIES ![]() VHS: MWMV67 DVD: MWMDVD67 |
Recorded in front of a live audience at the Customs House, South Shields, on Friday 11 March 2005.
Tall Stories features Brendan Healy’s surreal humour at its best. Alternative uses for Viagra, how to get your own back on taxi drivers, carol-singing snails and a witch doctor’s curse are all topics dealt with in Brendan’s irreverent and zany style. The programme carries a 15 certificate, although the occasional ribald language is unlikely to offend anyone other than people who have lead an exceptionally sheltered life! The title Tall Stories reflects Brendan’s height - six feet four inches fully extended. The production was directed by Geoff Wonfor, who has made numerous videos including work for Paul McCartney, Stevie Wonder and Bryan Ferry. He shared the direction duties with Ray Laidlaw, who used to play drums with Lindisfarne. |

| Bobby Pattinson LAUGHS AT LIFE ![]() VHS: MWMV1011 DVD: MWMDVD1011 |
Another hilarious video from the Godfather of North East comedy This is a very different album from Bobby Pattinson’s previous recorded show, Bobby’s Back. In this intimate theatre, it’s Bobby at his best in a more relaxed cabaret style of performance. It’s the style that’s made him tremendously successful from Longbenton to Las Vegas; from South Shields to Sydney. Bobby likes to say that he isn’t a North East comedian, he’s a comedian from the North East. It’s certainly true that his humour appeals to audiences all over the world, in places ranging from tiny clubs to massive cabaret venues. Bobby Pattinson Laughs At Life was recorded in front of a delighted full house at the Phoenix Theatre Blyth in 2004. |

Side-splitting belly laughs from a North East comedy legend Alan Snell’s eccentric style playing the Geordie daft lad has been entertaining audiences since 1970. At the peak of his career, he was doing up to twenty-one shows a week, including bookings throughout England, Wales and Scotland. But his favourite audiences are right here in the North East of England, where he’s won many awards for his work. At His Very Vest was recorded in front of an audience at Newcastle Playhouse on 28 September 2003. The video includes Alan’s quirky views on hospitals and doctors, schools and teachers, holidays abroad, football, pubs and “wor lass”. There are occasional mild swear words and references to sex so parental discretion is advised. The video has been given a “12” certificate. |

| BOBBY’s BACK Bobby Pattinson ![]() VHS: MWMV1007 DVD: MWMDVD1007 |
The Godfather of North East Comedy NOW AVAILABLE ON DVD Bobby Pattinson is possibly one of the most successful of all North East comedians. He’s travelled extensively around the English-speaking world, appearing in Australia, Canada and the USA, including the Sands and the Stardust Hotel in Las Vegas. He’s topped the bill at practically every major theatre club in Britain, and has been voted Cabaret Comedian of the Year three times. Bobby returned to his native North East and opened the highly successful Talk of the Tyne Club at Gateshead in 1978. He likes nothing better than working with Northern audiences where he can ‘taalk proppa’ and be understood. This video is of a live performance at Whitley Bay Playhouse, where he played to a packed sell-out audience. The standing ovation he receives is a tribute to his screamingly funny material, his professional delivery and his instinctive rapport with the fans. |

| THE LITTLE WASTER Bobby Thompson ![]() VHS: MWMV1003 DVD: MWMDVD1003 |
NOW DIGITALLY REMASTERED
Bobby Thompson - “a legend in his own lifetime” This was the almost unanimous opinion of both audiences and fellow performers. After something like fifty years of comedy and working almost exclusively in the North's clubland, he commanded high earnings and large crowds. Bobby Thompson was admired and loved as a hero of the working class, who was able to turn tales of harsh experiences into the stuff of laughter. This video shows Bobby at his peak, with full length versions of his most famous acts, The Little Waster and The Old Soldier, an account of his contribution to the Second World War, including an encounter with Adolf Hitler down the chip shop. The video also contains a documentary film shot during his final years, in which he speaks frankly about his origins, and problems with debt, dole and drink. |
