Luke Casey is an award-winning broadcaster who has worked in television for over 30 years. In the 1960s, he worked as a reporter for BBC Look North in Newcastle covering stories on Teesside and North Yorkshire.
Luke was the first journalist to persuade James Herriot (AKA Thirsk vet, Alf Wight) to appear on television, correctly predicting that his books would become compulsive reading. Herriot's stories eventually became the basis for the television programme All Creatures Great And Small. Luke is the writer and presenter of The Dales Diary. A selection of volumes from this successful series are now on sale through MWM. |

C Ernest Catcheside-Warrington was an important contributor to the North East song tradition in the first half of the 20th
Century, both as a performer and a recording artist. He is probably best known for compiling anthologies of Tyneside songs.

Suzannah Clarke (soprano) trained in Italy with Arrigo Pola, Pavarotti’s singing coach. She speaks Italian fluently and
has won international competitions in Spoleto, Modena and Barcelona. She has performed at Opera Festivals in Batignano, Barbados and
Wexford and sung leading rôles in many operas including The Marriage of Figaro, The Magic Flute and Carmen. She has
appeared as Principal Soprano with English National Opera and at La Scala, Milan.

David Clelland was born in Gateshead and worked as an electrical tester for Reyrolle. He became the MP for Tyne Bridge in 1985.

Terry Conway was born in Hexham General Hospital, and, apart from a short sojourn in Southport when very young, has lived in
Northumberland ever since. He worked for Northumberland County Council for many years, but has now ‘retired’ as a self-employed
gardener/handyman. Fortunately, he also finds time to write, perform and record songs. He’s an authority on Border Ballads.

Steve Daggett is a singer-songwriter and an ex member of Lindisfarne (1985/89).
He now performs solo and as part of his acoustic trio with Rachael Rhoades (fiddle, accordion) and Michael Bailey (upright bass).

Graeme Danby is Principal Bass with English National Opera. He was born in Consett, County Durham, and has sung with many other
companies in the UK and in Europe, including Royal Opera House Covent Garden, Opera North and Scottish Opera.

Johnny Dickinson is a singer/songwriter who has played in a range of bands, including Splitcrow, The Moonshine Boys,
Paul Lamb and the Kingsnakes and the Hillbillies From Outer Space.

Judy Dinning is a singer/songwriter who was born and brought up in Hexhamshire and still lives near Hexham. She’s a classically
trained singer, with a Diploma in Voice from the London College of Music, but her first love is for traditional music. She plays guitar,
keyboards, Appalachian dulcimer, bodhran and percussion.

Mike Elliott used to compère the folk club at the now demolished George and Dragon pub in Sunderland. He formed Northern Front with
Ed Pickford and Nick Fenwick, and ran the Londonderry Nickelodeon.
He’s worked as a singer, comedian, after dinner speaker and radio shock jock.
He appeared in the box office success Billy Elliott.
